How We Help the Santa Clarita Valley & Why YOU should join SCOPE!!

Scope is now over ten years old. We are a non-profit, public interest corporation that you can deduct from your taxes! SCOPE has survived and matured to be an influential and effective representative of residents that care about good planning, open space and the environment.

Why do we deserve your support? Let’s review the facts:

Every quarter we mail the SCOPE newsletter to 1500 or more people in the SCV, providing residents with timely information on projects that may affect their neighborhoods.

For the last several years, SCOPE has sponsored special workshops on Significant Ecological Areas, Livable Communities and the Santa Clara River. (We hope you’ll join us for our April 18th event, see How to Make the Best of Your Town).

SCOPE is the only local non-profit organization to file successful legal challenges to protect your rights to better schools, better libraries, better air quality, and our important natural areas.

SCOPE members also attend and monitor most public meetings in the Santa Clarita Valley to ensure citizen input and good public process. We review and comment on development projects and environmental impact reports to make sure that the developers have disclosed all impacts, and that public officials are aware of all the issues. We send out "Action Alerts" on important projects so that you know what is happening in our Valley.

Because of your continued support, both the City and the County now respect SCOPE as a community voice for good planning.

To those who have been faithful members, we thank you with all our hearts. Your help to defray postage costs or donations of time have been invaluable. You have enabled us continue the important services we provide.

LEGAL FINE PRINT:
SCOPE membership is restricted to people (no organization may become a member) who are 16 years old or older. Members must have a principal residence within the boundaries of the Santa Clarita Valley (the watershed of the Santa Clara River within Los Angeles County). Members must be committed to SCOPE's purposes as outlined in the Bylaws, and participate actively to support these purposes. Members must be current on their dues.

The Purpose of SCOPE is to:

Promote, protect and preserve the environment of the Santa Clarita Valley,
Work to provide a high quality of life for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley,
Monitor, review, and take action on proposals that would impact or affect the environment, ecology and/or quality of life in the Santa Clarita Valley,
Provide a forum for the people of the Santa Clarita Valley in which issues involving the environment, ecology or quality of life can be heard and discussed,
Foster the education of the members and the people of the Santa Clarita Valley on matters involving the environment, ecology, and quality of life, and
Promote community planning and design that exhibits superior attention to quality, aesthetics, sensitivity to the environment, and consideration of community goals and needs.

If you don't qualify under the above criteria, you are still welcome to make a tax-deductible donation, which we would very much appreciate. You will also be placed on our newsletter mailing list.
